Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is an evidence-based, whole-school systems approach that aims to create a positive, safe and supportive learning environment for every student. PBL ensures that:
- The diverse academic and social needs of all students are identified and supported so they can succeed
- Schools implement a continuum of supports, adjusting and intensifying strategies based on the needs of individual students
- A team-driven, problem-solving approach is used, drawing on data, systems and effective practices
- Students, staff, parents and the wider community are actively engaged in the process
- Clear and positive school-wide expectations for behaviour are established and taught
- The school community works collectively to support the wellbeing of every student
When PBL is embedded across the school, you will see meaningful and positive change:
- Students respond positively because they have been explicitly taught what is expected
- Staff use consistent and predictable responses to learning and behaviour
- Students feel safe, valued and supported at school
- Parents, families and the community are more involved and connected
- Unproductive or challenging behaviours are significantly reduced for most students
